Her time as a reporter at The Washington Post was spent reporting on multiple Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis along with basketball, football and other sports. A billion viewers viewed the program across the world. Nichols was a reporter at TNT during this period, covering NBA broadcasts like playoff games, regular season games or teams from the All-Star league. Nichols also reported on golf, baseball, and Final Four broadcasts for CBS and TBS. Through the history of 42 years of this award, it was the first time that women were one of the nominees.
